Mapping of Loads from FloTHERM and FloEFD to FEA Models

FloTHERM® (MentorGraphics) is a powerful 3D CFD software that predicts airflow and heat transfer in and around electronic equipment, from components and boards up to complete systems. FloTHERM enables engineers to create virtual models of electronic equipment, perform thermal analysis, and test design modifications quickly and easily before any physical prototypes are built.

FloEFD® (MentorGraphics) is a computational fluid dynamics analysis tool that is embedded into major MCAD systems. These include Pro/ENGINEER, CATIA, Siemens NX and SolidWorks; and tight integration with Inventor and SolidEdge. FloEFD is a full-featured 3D fluid flow, heat transfer analysis package that is both fast to learn and to use because it doesn’t come with the numerical complexity and meshing overheads of traditional high-end CFD.

In a cooperation with MentorGraphics Fraunhofer SCAI has extended its MpCCI FSIMapper to support a new export format from FloTHERM v10 and FloEFD v13. The FSIMapper can be used to transfer CFD simulation results to corresponding models in Ansys, Abaqus, or MSC.Nastran - even if the meshes in CFD and FEA have non-matching descretizations.
