Fluid structure simulation on distributed high performance computer resources

Fluid-structure interaction in hydraulic turbines is simulated using the in-house CFD-Code FENFLOSS coupled with the open source structural code CalculiX using MpCCI. As necessity for a FENFLOSS-MpCCI adapter, a set of userdefined subroutines are implemented. In addition, an adapter to CalculiX is developed. Controlling the parameters for coupling the MpCCI-GUI may be entered. Since water is modeled as an incompressible fluid with high density, an implicit coupling scheme is introduced in addition to an explicit coupling scheme. Both coupling versions are benchmarked and compared. Due to stability reasons, a tidal current runner with slender blades is simulated under unsteady ow conditions with the implicit coupling scheme.
