Fluid structure interaction on flexible wind turbine blades using FINE/Hexa and Abaqus

This paper presents results of co-simulations using MpCCI (v3.0.6-21), the CFD-code Fine/ Hexa (v2.7-1) and the FE-code Abaqus (v6.8-1). The main interest is to accurately predict aero-elastic effects on a flexible wind turbine blade. Fine/Hexa simulates the flow field around the wind turbine blade using RANS model and sends pressure loads to Abaqus. The displacements are then computed by Abaqus and sent back to Fine/Hexa. For the study, different configurations for the blade are considered. The configurations differ with one another in composite lay-up and overall sweeping of blade geometry.
